EO-1 Poster - Rev 2

It may take a few seconds for this page to fully load. This page displays 8 new versions of the EO-1 Poster based on comments from the rev 1 evaluation. From the initial designs the image: 4snaps was chosen as the basic poster concept. It emphasizes the multispectral aspect of the mission and earth imaging in general.

The original 4snaps concept is shown below (1st image) with the comments were worked in. Then variations were created in an attempt experiment with the 4snaps theme possibly making the poster more visually interesting to a broader audience and saying a little more about what the END PRODUCTS of EO-1 are while still retaining the theme chosen.

4snaps2.0.1

NOTE: the GREY background is NOT part of the posters, its there to show the edges of the white poster background.

From the original 4snaps the comments were worked in verbatim. Then wrapped in a poster frame.

  • Remove Blur on sat
  • Add Spectrum beam to Hyperion
  • Make image slices RGB respectively
  • Add crescent moon
  • Use the tag line: A Clearer Picture of our Changing Planet
  • make sure its a multiple of 8.5x11 sheets

NOTE: the colors are less intense than in the original 4snaps image. I toned these colors down (cmyk mode as opposed to RGB) to show what the PRINTED image will look like. Colors in print are far less intense than what can be produced on a monitor.

4snaps2.0.3

This version angles the satellite to give a more dynamic feel to the image. Also the satellite and snaps are slightly breaking out of the confines of the rectangle which adds to the dynamic feel and makes them seem closer to the viewer while pushing the earth farther back in space.

NOTE: that spectral bands are perpendicular to beam axis as opposed to version 2.0.1. Either variation could be worked in.

4snaps2.0.4

This design takes the above and pixelates the beams. This can visually signify many things such as the many pictures taken and the digita imagingl aspect of the mission as well as the idea of resolution both spacial and spectral AND the way its done it speaks to the idea of clearer pictures.

Pixelated1

I used the pixelation idea in a different way. Pixelating part of the earth but it speaks to the same points as above:

  • the many snapshots taken by EO-1,
  • the nature of digital image processing,
  • the ideas of resolution both spatial and spectral and
  • the idea of EO-1 taking CLEARER pictures than former imaging satellites.

I removed the snapshots - I think they make the picture too busy. I don't think they add much "information" to the poster and they clutter it up.

In short I think this image says more in a cleaner image than the previous images while still retaining the original theme.

Pixelated 2

Pixelated the entire earth and added snapshots at bottom to represent the results of the CLEARER pictures EO-1 is taking.

This image is mainly strong on color which makes it attractive to the eye and the 4 pictures at bottom speak to WHAT/HOW EO-1 data is used. Therefore this image says more about E0-1 than previous images while still keeping the original theme..

NOTE: Another possible variation could be 2.0.3 with the pictures at bottom. These pictures could be anything. I picked some shots that I thought related to the mission.

4ViewsOfChangingPlanet

This design takes the above ideas, without pixelation (could be added). But features a VERY STRONG image of the earth dominating the poster area. The edge of the earth leads the eye into the 4 pictures at the bottom which make a strong statement about HOW/WHAT the EO-1 data is used.

NOTE: these pictures could be anything. I picked some shots that I thought related to the mission, namely

  • Urban Planning
  • Deforestation
  • Mineral/Resources Location/Management
  • Wildlife/Rain Forest Habitat.

Spectral Banding 1

This design takes the above ideas and expands on them further. It attempts to show the higher density spectral banding that the EO-1 instruments will capture. As well as the notion of spectral signatures of objects on earth. Again the pictures signify the end use of the data. Also this image tries to show a difference between the ALI and Hyperion views of the earth.

NOTE: I don't consider this image finished, its the ideas and their visual representation that you should consider.

Spectral Banding 2

Same as previous without the snapshots. Less cluttered.
